Landen, Landen, Landen..Mommy loves you.

Well today is just like any other day only Landen feels the need to be slightly "naughtier" than usual. He's in his chair eating his breakfast and has his sippy there and when he's "ah dun" (all done of course) he throw's everything on the floor, sometimes he will throw something so hard it will fly across the kitchen. Thank goodness for our Boxer, Hoya. She is right there just praying and waiting for waffles to land in front of her feet.

So this morning he says "ah dun" and does the sign language for it, so I though I had a little time before he threw it...................I was wrong. He threw the cup on the floor and it's those cheap plastic ones that you can throw away (I will not name the brand however I will never buy them again b/c the lids pop right off!) so the top came flying off and juice went all over the floor, and of course Hoya was outside doing her thing so I got down and cleaned it all up, and he just thinks it's funny.

Man, I tell ya this game is getting real old and I do not know how to correct it, if it's even correctable.

Thanks for visiting my site. Landen is a cute little guy! I remember when my kids would do those "naughty" little things too. I think it's just a phase they all go through. I know everyone says to enjoy them at this age - they grow up too fast, but it's true. My oldest daughter is going to be graduating on Wednesday from high school. I can hardly believe it - she was just 3 lbs. when she was born and is now getting ready for college!

Oh how I know this game!!! My son thought the "throwing food" game was funny, and when he said "uh oh...oots" it made it that much more funny! No so!

We have started implementing "Time outs" (for various things throughout the day)...though we say we're "taking a break". This would happen immediately after anything is thrown from the table. The dog goes outside right away, and when our "break" is over (1 minute for every year old), he has to help pick up the mess!

Sometimes it took 20 minutes of kicking and screaming, and me forcing his hands to pick up the mess...but he doesn't throw food anymore!!! Just a little something that has been working for us!

This too shall pass, my dear.
Repetition, repetition, repetition. Have you tried showing him to hand the cup/bowl to you once he say's he's all done? So...
~ he says, "aw dun"
~ and you say, "all done, mommy" (in a voice like you're repeating what he says so that when he starts saying this it's more like he's prepping for "may I please be excused?")
~ then you rush in and gently help his arm/hand give the item to you. at first it will be more like you are putting your hand in the line of fire before the item gets thrown.
~ then thank him & kiss him on the head.
This will probably take a while to stick as most good manners do. And it might sound a little crazy to folks that believe in spanking & using negative force. Rob & I definitely take the peaceful parenting route because we prefer Tuesday does good things because it makes her feel good to do them rather than because if she doesn’t she’ll get punished. You could also look at it as “Do unto others.”
Mwah!
that wacky peaceful tree-huggin’ cousin of yours
